Pacific Metal Solutions (PSP) is a world-class manufacturer of high-quality stainless steel products and has expanded from its Oregon roots to Spearfish, South Dakota. This strategic move was inspired by the company owner’s personal connection to the Black Hills region, where he frequently vacationed and fell in love with the area’s natural beauty and quality of life. 

The decision to establish a presence in Spearfish wasn’t just a business move; it was a lifestyle choice for many of PSP’s dedicated employees. Five workers, along with their families, made the decision to relocate to South Dakota, drawn by the quality of life for their children and the unique opportunities the state offers.

At its core, PSP is a versatile metal fabrication powerhouse, capable of tackling projects of any scale. From intricate custom railings for residential homes to massive industrial structures, PSP’s expertise knows no bounds. The company offers a comprehensive suite of services, including CAD design, laser cutting, CNC machining, press brake forming, and fabrication, ensuring they can meet the diverse needs of their clients. Chris Mendez, a Metal Solutions Machinist & Welder, emphasizes this versatility: “If you can imagine it with metal, we can make it happen.” 

The expansion to South Dakota has proven advantageous from a business perspective as well. PSP benefits from the state’s favorable tax environment. This financial incentive has allowed PSP to invest more in its operations and workforce.  

The work culture at PSP’s Spearfish location exemplifies the strong work ethic South Dakota is known for. Employees express genuine gratitude for their roles, demonstrating a level of commitment that translates into high-quality craftsmanship.  

Daniel Biden, Metal Solutions Machine Shop Foreman, notes, “I love my job. I love my employer. When I found out they were opening up another facility in South Dakota, it took me all of about 10 minutes of research to find out this was where I wanted to be for the growth potential.” 

Looking ahead, PSP is positioned for further growth and diversification of its services. The company plans to add powder coating to its line up of metal fabrication offerings, further solidifying its position as a leading custom metal fabricator in the region.  

Brian Cerelli, Metal Solutions Operations & Production Manager, emphasizes the company’s unique position: “This area doesn’t have anything like us, and so we can provide for this state and then the surrounding states a service that isn’t really out here.”
