PIERRE, SD – The Governor’s Office of Economic Development has been recognized by Area Development Magazine with the Silver Shovel Award in the category of small states with populations of less than 3 million people.

“The Governor’s Office of Economic Development continues to strive to assist companies that are expanding,” said Deputy Commissioner Chris Schilken. “This is the second year that South Dakota has been recognized by Area Development Magazine, building on the Silver Shovel award we received in 2023.”
The award recognizes state economic development agencies that have achieved significant success in attracting new business investment and job creation. The 2024 awards honor states for their achievements in 2023.
