Wall — Small Town Charm, Big City Goals

Wall, a small town with a big presence, sits at the foothills of the Badlands in western South Dakota.

The community of just under 700 people has about 70 businesses and is working hard to increase that number in their industrial park. Working with the city council, the Wall Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) has established an 85-acre light industrial park north of Wall’s municipal airport and just off Interstate 90, at exit 109. With 18 lots, WEDC is hoping to bring more businesses to the area.

WEDC Executive Director Liliya Stone, explained, “In today’s environment, companies looking for a space typically don’t have time for road, utilities, and such to be built out. The Wall Industrial Park will be shovel ready and will give us an opportunity for new businesses to call it home.” Construction of the park is targeted to be completed by the end of 2022.

She said the main focus of WEDC is business expansion, business attraction, and housing developments. Housing, a challenge in many communities, is also something that Wall is proactively tackling.

“Wall has a big need of multi-family apartments and single-family housing. The city is working with local developers to provide infrastructure for potential housing development,” Stone said.

She noted that the community works hard to strive to make improvements and changes. From the city’s work with infrastructure, to shovel ready sites prepared by WEDC, the community will be prepared when opportunity arises.

She noted that there are so many reasons Wall is a great community. With a general low cost of housing, along with Wall’s community spirit and willingness to support people in the community, Wall is a great place to raise a family.

“Everyone looks out for each other. I chose Wall. It really is a great place,” Stone concluded.
