GOED Expands Training Dollars for Employers

August 10, 2023

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Today, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) announced that the Workforce Development Program will be expanding to accommodate more companies.

The Workforce Development Program helps companies that are training new and existing employees who require additional skills because of company growth. The program can fund up to 50% of eligible training expenses for companies that meet certain wage and benefit criteria.

“Empowering business owners with great employee training resources is a critical piece of employee retention and contributes to overall workforce development,” said Chris Schilken, Commissioner of GOED. “We are excited to expand our Workforce Development Program so that more companies can take advantage of these resources and invest in their workforce.”

The Workforce Development Program assists companies to provide employees with technical, transferable skills. GOED has recently increased the award amounts available to more accurately reflect the cost of training. GOED also allowed for a waiver of the employment benchmarks.

Companies are encouraged to apply to GOED’s Workforce Development Program. More information on the program can be found here.
