South Dakota’s bio-friendly ecosystem is just one of the reasons Penny Sattgast, president and founder of PCS Biotech Services, loves doing business in South Dakota.
Sattgast’s bio-consulting business is based in Pierre, SD. Her time at Novartis Animal Health and Elanco Animal Health, where she served as a Clinical Trial Study Director and Scientist, gave her the background she needed to get started on her own.
“I thought it was important for companies in the Midwest to have a consultant close by to work with them on the different product development phases of their research,” Sattgast said. With more than 16 years experience in diverse clinical trial management, product licensure, and laboratory experience in the biologics industry, and providing regulatory and quality assurance to her clients, Sattgast has also been an asset to the bio industry in South Dakota, where she serves on the state Biotech Association Board.
Sattgast said establishing her company in South Dakota was easy. “The people here have been great. One of the most impressive parts of developing an LLC in South Dakota was the ease of filing and gaining corporate documents. I utilized the free business consulting services of the South Dakota Business Development Center. With their help, I was able to complete my paperwork in one day,” she said.
“Another perk of doing business in south Dakota, besides the business climate, is the bio ecosystem network here. You are literally one phone call away from getting introduced or meeting the right people,” she added.
Sattgast is confident that South Dakota’s bio industry will continue to grow. “There are so many exciting research projects going on in South Dakota right now,” she said. “Our companies are literally making discoveries that will change the world.”
